Sun Valley, one of the most beloved wintertime ski destinations, has quietly become a go-to four-season spot. The resort first opened in 1936, and the celebrity roster put the tiny town on the map. Since then, it has gradually shifted away from being a star-studded enclave. Now, visitors come for the glitz-free atmosphere, endless outdoor adventures and farm-to-table restaurants. Summertime can have the wild-and-free feel of camp, so it’s little surprise that each July, the town plays host to an annual work-and-play retreat organized by behemoth bank Allen & Co, attended by famous last names: Cook, Zuckerberg, Bezos, Moonves, Murdoch, Diller…
But the types we’d really like to rub elbows with are the locals who call the valley home year-round. They’ll tell you where to go to see the Sun Valley that’s not in travel guides, so we rounded up some of our favorites here. From an 18-year-old photographer and a world-champ biker to a food writer and craft beer master, these folks will have your trip planned.
