NYC's Most Powerful Coven: Who @The.Wing Follows

We think the fine folks at Quartz have described The Wing best: “To enter the Wing, a new women’s co-working space and social club in Manhattan’s Flatiron district, is to walk into a rose-tinted world where the people are kind and hard-working; the coffee is strong; and someone always has a hair tie.”

You couldn’t have missed hearing about the space if you tried. Each corner of the Internet flipped out. On Instagram, founding members posted their welcome boxes. Shelter mags like Arch Digest ogled the space. New York Mag covered its pajama party. i-D pondered The Wing’s place among the history and future of women’s only clubs. And, omg, is it gorgeously designed and merchandised.

Their rolodex is no doubt comprised of the most interesting, compelling, curious female minds, but who do they see when they power up Instagram? These women, that’s who! We’re sharing all 90+ (of the feeds that are public—privacy, you know), with a few of our favorites at the top.

What we wouldn’t give to sit next to Stella at a dinner party. She oversees the pitch-perfect coverage at The Cut—a mammoth undertaking, as the site uniquely covers the entire female experience, from motherhood to masquera-type-stuff to zero-tolerance-for-inequality workplace politics.

You could say Dodai made Jezebel what it was, shaping the discourse on womanhood at a site whose parent company (Gawker) could’ve easily let it go crazy. She’s now at Fusion, and we still turn to her for thought guidance.

It takes a nuanced, sensitive and beautiful mind to find what the storied (and, in the past, stuffy) Metropolitan Museum of Art should be in the social space. They’re lucky to have Kimberly Drew who has never let her job define her. Her Instagram barely mentions her gig but is heavy on the empowerment.

The retail platform Zady is billed as “The Whole Foods of Fashion” (because everyone’s a sucker for the contextual X of Y convention), but really, it kind of is: Soraya Darabi and her co-founder—also a woman—built it to grow ethically and in a balanced way. She did such a good job, she was able to give herself some distance, take on an advisory role, and help other businesses get off the ground. She is a woman for women.
