Instagram yesterday, Instagram extended its video length to a full minute, and you know who might be the most excited about this? Magicians. Why? Because their awe-inspiring, mind-blowing illusions are even easier to share with those not lucky enough to sit in their audiences. Though there’s nothing like getting your world rocked IRL, here’s some trickery to soak up through the screen. Nope, we aren’t April Foolin’.
The St Louis native’s nickname is Justin Kredible for a reason—the guy does it all, from hosting Cupcake Wars to cracking jokes for Comedy Central on Sleight of Mouth. And for those of you familiar with the Funny or Die series Drunk History—and everyone should be—you’ll enjoy his engagement story which hilariously parodies it. Oh, and let’s not forget about his insane wedding first dance. Yes, that’s a lotta links, but trust—very worth it.
Speciality: Classic magic.
Dan White’s business cards read, “The Magician at The NoMad Hotel.” Yes, he is the magician-in-residence at one of New York’s jazziest crashpads with seriously good reason. He runs with a magician crowd—he and Justin Willman are homies—and he’s a showman in the truest sense: tall, dark, handsome and so smooth. We can say, having experienced his mindfuckery first hand, that we actually believe in magic.
Speciality: Illusions and cards
What if you grew up in a house where magic tricks were practiced on the regular? That’s the life of comedian, actor and magician Derek Hughes’s two children, and he documents it all over Instagram. His own website states that he doesn’t believe in trying to capture magic on camera, but his feed is still worth following for its charming family moments and behind-the-scenes moments at his gigs at famed The Magic Castle.
Speciality: Comedic trickery.
The first search result when you google “Brett Loudermilk magician” is a video titled “How To Be a Sword Swallower” which is all you really need to know about the model-slash-magician. He’s one of the youngest pros in the business and has built a name for himself with his good looks, slight of hand and cringe-inducing work with swords. We’re also nominating him for the Best Hair in Magic award.
Speciality: Swordplay.
One big differentiator about Vinny is his transparency—he’s one of the few magicians to blog about his work, and about trends in the industry. One notable post? “Will Technology Replace Mystery?” is a pretty rare glimpse into a magician’s mind, which is fitting because he’s known for his psychic mind-reading abilities. In this Buzzfeed video, he guesses people’s phone numbers. What.
