20 Powerful Instagrams from Women’s March

It’s impossible to ignore the role social media played in this weekend’s unprecedented movement, building excitement, creating community, and, in a sense, making it feel “okay” to speak loudly.  While the movement that began as an election-night Facebook post lit up the world with marches on all seven continents, Instagram offered a real-time view.

Here, we’re sharing just 20 of the 1.2 million-and-counting worldwide Instagrams tagged #womensmarch.

“‘That’s my dad, and it took an hour the day before the march to convince him to go. The sign was his idea. He just wasn’t sure if he should go and take any of the spotlight away from the women who should be getting the attention. I told him that, for better or for worse, people tend to listen to people who look like him.
This is his email to me after the march: “I was more popular today than any other time in my life, including when I won the Canadian tennis tournament. …I hadn’t protested since the Vietnam War.” #womensmarch 🇺🇸'”
