March Madness: Baddest Ballers This Year

For the 27th consecutive year, the Kansas Jayhawks are in the tournament, tying the previous record set by North Carolina. It’s a little (but meaningful) victory the sports press are attributing, at least partially, to Frank Mason III, the point guard whose skills are truly undisputed. He has a unique reason to be so driven: his son Amari, who often pops up on his posts. Another reason to love Frank’s feed? His use of crazy filters and love of fan art.

Right now, you’ll notice London Perrantes’s hair before you notice anything else; the squareshaped mop is basically his version of a playoff beard and fans are saying its basically a good luck charm. If there’s any player who genuinely seems like a solid dude, and a good student to boot—lest we forget that these guys are in college—it may be DIllon Brooks, the Ducks’ #1-ranked forward. His feed has a very, “Basketball stars! They’re Just Like Us!” vibe: homesick moments, new haircuts, bored-in-class selfies, and the one thing few of us have: high-octane jump shots and Dillon’s signature game face.

For the first time in 23 years, Seton Hall caused a total shake-up in the NCAA tournament: this weekend, SHU won a total thriller of a game against Villanova. It was the sort of match-up that underdog stories are written for, and one of the team leaders is Derrick Gordon, the guard who’s known for locker room pump-ups and, more recently, for being the first openly gay player in the NCAA.
