The Beauty of John Oliver’s #LetsNotGetAfterIt

On Sunday, Last Week Tonight host John Oliver asked his viewers to participate in a roast of sorts parodying CNN host Chris Cuomo’s overuse of the hashtag, #letsgetafterit, in which the television news anchor often films himself in wildly aggressive poses while boxing and lifting weights. To counteract Cuomo’s hashtag, Oliver announced, “I challenge you, the viewers, to take to Instagram and ‘get after it’ only as much as is comfortable and appropriate for you.” In the four days since the show aired, #letsnotgetafterit has been used 3,371 times. While Last Week Tonight still has some catching up to do until it’s able to match the original hashtag (which has been used 5,115 times and counting), here’s a selection of the best of not getting after it.
