🗣“NOW” (2017) by French artist Martial Raysse (b. 1936) whose figurative painting practice commenced in the 1950s and has found new appreciation today, or NOW, rather. The subtle background of this particular work shows unrest, relevant as violence disrupts the lives of so many. The body, that which represents humanity, will persist. It was one of the first likenesses to appear in art and is finding acceptance now in the contemporary scene once again. Today is my birthday and I lift my head to the artists who have come before and those of now, making work trying to discover how to best, visually describe this moment.
