A Farewell to the Man Who Fell to Earth

The outpouring of creativity honoring David Bowie on Instagram is to be expected, but the millions of posts have proven just how world-sized his legacy is, with many of the tributes coming from his musical peers or those inspired by him.

Here, ten posts bringing Bowie’s fans just a little bit closer.

Some notable insights:

UK-based illustrator @helengreen’s video collage of Bowie’s looks over the years was reposted by Instagram heavyweight @caradelevingne, with a re-gram by @krisjenner.

Street Artist @akajimmyc’s Brixton (the London neighborhood where he was born) mural has become a local shrine, receiving media coverage from around the globe.

The account @DavidBowie unsurprisingly experienced a massive lift in follower growth in the past 48 hours. Having just thanked fans on January 8th, Bowie’s birthday, for hitting the 100,000 mark, the account grew 182% — from 177,000 to 274,000 followers — since his passing.

Representing a whopping 52x overperformance (above a post’s average performance) and 67% engagement rate (the audience liking and commenting).

No question he made an impact on the world.

Farewell, Bowie, you once-in-a-lifetime man.
