Meet Your New Matcha, The Turmeric Latte
September 25, 2017
After trading in the standard-issue chai latte for matcha, the frothy, verdant, antioxidant-packed wonder brew that’s gone from ancient ceremonial Japanese delicacy to your local Starbucks menu, now, another vibrant beverage is cropping up in hip cafés and across Instagram globally: the turmeric latte.
Also known as the golden latte, the caffeine-free, marigold-hued drink is typically comprised of fresh or ground turmeric, ginger, and almond, coconut, or cashew milk; many java-slinging joints also add a bit of black pepper. Used medicinally in South Asia for 4,000 years, the yellow spice was named 2016’s “breakout star” ingredient by Google.
The health payoff? Tumeric’s a powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant with major skin and digestive system benefits; it also contains a bioactive compound, curcumin, that’s purported to fight depression and anxiety.
Between the wellness factor and its photogenic properties, drinking a turmeric latte is about as close as you can come to drinking liquid gold. Stay thirsty friends.
