Welcome to the Jungle: Plant People of Instagram

Spending as much time on Instagram as we do, we have a front row seat to the evolution of now ubiquitous trends. Take, for example, the massive influx of shops and apartments brimming with houseplants and filling up our feeds. We featured Justina Blakeny, founder of The Jungalow, back in 2016 with some other favorite interior designers, and as 2017 trudges on we’ve seen the culture continue to spread and firmly take root.

Now, there’s a whole tribe of greenery grammers. Our friends at Lorem Ipsum featured the trend, shouting out the Washington Post’s thorough examination of the phenomena: “Millennials are filling their homes — and the void in their hearts — with houseplants.” It sounds like a joke, but it’s true. As they point out, plants become popular during tumultuous times i.e. post industrial revolution, during Watergate, when the president is the president etc.

When we want our modern homes to feel homey and tranquil, we turn to mom—mother nature that is. Plus, green looks real good brightening up an Insta post; even Pantone agrees. Read on for some perennial plant-spiration from Instagram’s greenest thumbs. No creepers here besides the botanical variety, promise.
